In 2026, the Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Sites were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The inscription recognises a historic porcelain-production system whose influence reached far beyond China.
A city shaped around porcelain
UNESCO describes a system that connected raw-material extraction and transport with kiln innovation, workshop production, merchant networks and specialised communities. Its five component parts include the town’s porcelain-production centre, the Hutian kiln site, the Gaoling kaolin mine site, the Changling porcelain-stone mine site and the Jiaotan kiln-fuel production area.
Across this network, Jingdezhen developed large-scale organisation and important technical innovations, including the use of kaolin and porcelain stone together. Blue-and-white porcelain and other Jingdezhen designs became globally traded and widely studied.
From historic heritage to living craft
The pieces marked with “景” at 77cups are made in Jingdezhen. Their contemporary production comes from the city’s living porcelain-making environment and craft lineage. They are not presented as historic artefacts, and we do not claim that every modern step is identical to the processes represented by the protected sites.
This distinction matters: heritage explains the depth of the place and tradition; the product pages provide the evidence for the objects sold today, including in-house photography and untouched camera originals.
